The Sunset House uses linear layout planning with common areas placed at the back of the house due to the site’s unique fan shape characteristic - the front of the site is narrower compared to its back. The layout also informs the placement of a lush private garden at the backyard, acting as an outdoor extension of the common areas.

The house sits along an east-west axis, hence the shorter façades of the house face the sun naturally. This informs sustainability approach such as using double brick walls at the façade facing the east, while verandah and balcony are incorporated at the other side of the house facing west. The outdoor spaces not only act as a buffer zones between indoor and outdoor, but also serves to provide shading for the interior spaces. Usage of generous verandah and balcony coupled with a streamlined outlook also leads to a modern Australian style identity. A cantilever glass roof at the front provides a column-free and spacious design, welcoming its residents and guests into a modern living experience. The result is a modern western style house acting as a personal haven for its residents.
